Hydrodissection for Our Aesthetic Injector: A Case Report

For the past few months, our aesthetic injector Bonnie Wrighthad been experiencing unrelenting back pain and morning stiffness. She also felt soreness and like a tight knot behind her shoulder. She felt like it was stemming from overuse as an aesthetic injector, administering and supervising hundreds of facial injections each day. Because she was injecting more and more clients lately, she didn’t have time to rest, and she tried weekly massages, chiropractic adjustments, acupuncture, and CBD capsules, but found no relief from her pain. One day, while working alongside the medical providers at JWP, she thought they may be able to help her by examining her back with the musculoskeletal ultrasound. On November 5, 2021, she was evaluated by Dr. Michael Meng, DC, RN, Musculoskeletal Sonologist, and Nurse Practitioner Martyna Erskine. Through the ultrasound imaging, they found tenderness and impingement of the tiny nerves passing through her thoracolumbar fascia at the posterior superior iliac spine (PSIS), as well as the intercostal and supracostal muscles at the thoracic level number 7. They shared with her that they believed that she would have immediate relief after receiving a hydrodissection procedure under ultrasound guidance. She agreed to give it a try. Nurse Practitioner Martyna Erskineused a solution of saline, Vitamin B12, and peptides BPC-157 and Thymosin Beta 4 to perform the hydrodissection. Hydrodissection is a process to separate the fascial layers and break up the spiderwebs of tight fascia, in order to allow Bonnie’s tiny pinched nerves to receive blood supply and oxygen and move freely again. Within minutes, Bonnie felt relief of her pain. She has been injecting patients for an entire month since her procedure, and she still reports incredible freedom in movement and enhanced enjoyment of her job, now that she is pain-free.
