Shout Out Local: We had the good fortune of connecting with Carol Bender and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Shout Out Local: Hi Carol, how does your business help the community or world?
Carol: Our business is more than just a clinic – we are transforming the future of medicine. We promote the body’s own regenerative potential to heal itself. We strive to use the most advanced scientific research supporting natural and bio-identical methods of care, keeping the body healthy and/or restoring the body to an optimal level of health. We believe regenerative medicine is the answer to the opioid epidemic, and that the stellate ganglion block procedure that we perform is one of the most powerful tools to alleviate human suffering. By reducing the number of individuals living with chronic pain or post-traumatic stress disorder/injury (PTSD/PTSI), our growing field of medicine has the potential to curb the number of deaths and suicides worldwide. We aim to promote awareness of this new field of regenerative medicine through top-quality care, case studies, research publications and – above all – outstanding results for our clients.
Shout Out Local: Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Carol: Joy Wellness Partners and Enliven Aesthetics are sister offices at 3333 Camino del Rio South, Ste 205A/B, San Diego, CA 92108. I am most proud when I hear daily stories of my clients who find their best quality of health through the services they receive at our facilities. We were founded our clinic in 2016, with a team of 3 part-timers, and we have been growing ever since. We found the greatest challenges to be the regulations for medical businesses in California. For example, we were challenged by the requirement that a Nurse Practitioner must be supervised by a physician. On September 29, 2020, however, Gavin Newsom voted to approve Bill AB 890, which will enable Nurse Practitioners to operate without physician oversight, starting on January 1st, 2023. We have an incredibly bright team, and we have learned lessons about how to maximize our team members’ strengths to achieve better outcomes for more clients each year. Our brand reflects high-quality service with a tender, caring heart. We treat each client as an individual, allowing them autonomy and control of their plan of care. We are happiest when clients tell us that our partnership with them is achieving better-than-ever results, enabling them to live joyfully and well.
Shout Out Local: If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Carol: For a weekend in San Diego, I would take my friend first to Sea 180 Restaurant in Imperial Beach for dinner and a sunset on the beach. The next day, we would get up and go to Trident Coffee in Imperial Beach, drive to Laguna Beach to go snorkeling at Montage Beach followed by gelato in Laguna Beach. Then we would finish up with In ‘n Out Burger on the way home. The next day, we would drive up to Julian, CA and take a hike on Mount Laguna. We would eat apple pie and ice cream. The next day, we would go paddle boarding in the San Diego bay, and perhaps take a motor boat out to catch some fish in the open ocean. If we were successful, we would eat our homemade poke that night. If it was an unlucky day, we would go to Poke Chop and buy the best poke in town. The next morning, we would get acai bowls and walk around Balboa Park, The Prado, and the Botanical Garden. We would also book time in the Japanese Tea Room and Japanese Garden, which I’ve always wanted to explore.
Shout Out Local: Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Carol: I would like to dedicate my shoutout to Betty Hanselman, my mom, who tirelessly and faithfully poured her heart and soul out in raising me as the first-born. Her years of home-schooling me and her dedication to me as a full-time mother were largely what taught me the meaning of faith, the virtues of kindness, and the opportunities within entrepreneurship.
